Narrow River Estuary Restoration
Narragansett, Rhode Island
Restoring Salt Marshes and Vital Estuarine Habitats
The Narrow River Estuary is a unique tidal embayment in lower Narragansett Bay, just west of Narragansett Town Beach in the towns of Narragansett and South Kingstown, R.I. The estuary is part of the John F. Chafee National Wildlife Refuge.
CER is working with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, The Nature Conservancy, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, R.I. Coastal Resources Management Council and other partners to restore salt marshes and other estuarine habitats in the Narrow River Estuary. The work is funded by Congress under Hurricane Sandy relief funding, and is designed to help Narragansett Bay's ecosystem withstand the impacts of future storms and climate change.
