You are in error as listing the Shawsheen River Watershed Association as a partner in your dam removal effort. As a member of the Board of Directors of the SRWA I know that we are not supporting the dam removal project at this time, only the study of the river. Your factsheet implies that we are in agreement with your dam removal goals, which is not true. We issued a statement to the Riverways program earlier this year on this matter.

Please edit your website to accuracy reflect our position, and not mislead the public.

I spent the 1st 18 years of my life living at 19 Chandler Circle, Andover. Later in life I moved to Maine and became an early advocate for and deeply involved in the effort to restore the lower Kennebec River, based on the removal of the Edwards Dam at Augusta. I'm sure you're aware of the positive national impact that the Edwards dam removal has had.

I still remember a Brook trout I caught by the mill in in Andover, and now applaud your efforts to restore that degraded water. Kepp me posted.

The following statement was passed uninimously by the Board of Directors of the Shawsheen River Watershed Association:

"The Shawsheen River Watershed Association supports the efforts fo the Mass Department of Fish and Game(and other contributing organizations) to undertake a comprehensive study of Marlin (also known as the Steven's Street) Dam, Red Rock Dam, Ballardvale Dam, and Balmoral Dam on the Shawsheen River in Andover."

Our mission statement clearly states that restoration is a primary goal of the organization.

"The mission of the Shawsheen River Watershed Association is to protect, restore, and enjoy the Shawsheen River and its watershed."

Many SRWA members intend to be active participants in this project. We look forward to the results of the feasibility study. We plan to work with all the partners to develop and implement the best possible plan for the ecorestoration of the Shawsheen River. The SRWA board has not taken any position on any specific recommendation; mainly because no recommendations have been made yet.

On a personal note, I have been extremely impressed by the breadth of interest in the Shawsheen River. Governmental agencies, environmental organizations, and private businesses at the federal, state, and local level are coming together to improve the river. The energy, passion, and commitment are appparent and exciting. I have high hopes that great things will come of this.
